Greyhound is committed to providing safe and accessible transportation for passengers with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other applicable regulations. Greyhound does not discriminate based on disability and strives to accommodate all passengers to the best of its ability.

Priority Seating

  • The first four rows of each bus are reserved for passengers with disabilities and the elderly.
  • If non-disabled passengers occupy these seats, bus staff will ask them to move, but they cannot be forced to do so.

Getting On and Off the Bus

  • Driver Assistance: Greyhound staff can assist with boarding, deboarding, and storing mobility aids.
  • Advance Notice: If you require assistance, it is highly recommended to notify Greyhound at least 48 hours in advance to ensure accommodations.
  • Bus Stop Accessibility: Some stations may not be fully accessible. Passengers are advised to check accessibility at their departure and arrival points.

Traveling with a Wheelchair or Mobility Scooter

  • Wheelchair lifts are available on all buses.
  • Passengers may choose to:
    • Travel seated in their wheelchair.
    • Transfer to a regular seat and store the wheelchair in the baggage compartment.
  • Each bus can accommodate two passengers seated in a wheelchair.
  • Size & Weight Limits:
    • Wheelchairs must not exceed 30 x 48 inches (76 x 121 cm).
    • Maximum combined weight (passenger + wheelchair): 600 lb (272 kg).
    • Some buses can accommodate up to 1000 lb (453 kg).
    • Cross-border buses (U.S. to Canada) may have a lower weight limit of 660 lb (299 kg).

Storing Wheelchairs and Mobility Aids

  • Mobility aids such as canes and walkers can be stored inside the bus if they fit in the overhead compartment.
  • Wheelchairs and scooters exceeding the maximum size must be stored in the baggage compartment.
  • Storage is free for the first mobility aid, but additional items may be subject to standard baggage fees.
  • Storage Dimensions:
    • Maximum size: 33 x 33 x 48 inches.
    • Maximum weight: 200 lb (90 kg).

Service Animals

  • Service animals are permitted on all Greyhound buses at no additional charge.
  • Service animals must remain under control (leashed, harnessed, or in a carrier).
  • They must fit within the passenger's space (i.e., at the feet) and cannot occupy a seat or block the aisle.
  • Emotional support animals (ESAs) are not permitted.

Connecting Bus Operators

If your trip includes another bus company, check with them in advance as they may require 48 hours’ notice to provide an accessible bus.

Traveling Alone

Passengers must be able to travel independently, meaning:

  • They do not need assistance for personal care (e.g., using the restroom, taking medication).
  • If they do, they must travel with a personal care assistant.

Lost or Damaged Mobility Equipment

  • Mobility aids stored under the bus are not considered checked baggage, but passengers can request a claim check for tracking.
  • If a mobility aid is lost or damaged, passengers can claim up to $250 per adult ticket.
  • Passengers can purchase additional insurance at the ticket counter before departure.
