Ticket Changes
Changes permitted for flexible tickets before the day of travel. Fare differences may apply.
Deutsche Bahn offers flexible options for canceling or refunding tickets, depending on the fare type and timing of the request. Below are the detailed policies for various ticket types.
- Cancellation must be made before the train's scheduled departure.
- Refunds are issued as vouchers or directly to the original payment method, depending on the fare type.
- Instant Cancellation Option: Applies to all digital tickets purchased via DB App or website. Free cancellation within 3 hours (180 minutes) after purchase.

Super Saver Fare (Sparpreis Super)
- Instant Cancellation: Free cancellation within 3 hours (180 minutes) of booking. No refund or cancellation is allowed after this period.
- Refunds: Not available once the instant cancellation window has passed.
Saver Fare (Sparpreis)
- Cancellable up to 1 day before travel for a EUR 10 fee.
- No cancellations or refunds are allowed on or after the day of travel.
- Refunds: Issued as a voucher valid for 3 years.
- Additional Notes: If a round-trip ticket is purchased, both legs must be canceled together.
Flexible Fare (Flexpreis)
- Free cancellation up to 8 days before the first travel day.
- 7 to 1 day before travel: EUR 10 fee.
- On or after the travel day: EUR 30 fee.
- Refunds: Refunds are credited to the original payment method or as a voucher.
Flexible Fare Europe (Flexpreis Europa)
- Same as Flexible Fare.
- Refunds: Available up to 1 month after the validity period of the ticket.
- Additional Notes: Cancellations for international tickets require contacting the issuing service provider if not issued by DB.
Group Tickets
- Free cancellation for the entire group 14 or more days before travel.
- 13 to 1 day before travel: EUR 5 fee per person.
- Individual traveler cancellations are allowed only if the group still consists of at least 6 people.
- Refunds: Issued as a voucher.
Regional and Special Tickets
- Länder-Tickets & Quer-durchs-Land-Tickets: Non-refundable once purchased.
Train Tickets Refunds
- Vouchers: Valid for up to 3 years from the date of issue.
- Direct Refunds: To the original payment method for flexible fares and some saver fares.
- eCoupons: Non-refundable but remain valid for future bookings.
- Processing Time: Typically processed within 7–14 business days for online requests.
Refund Exceptions
- Super Saver Fares: Refunds are only possible during the instant cancellation window.
- Saver Fares: Refunds require both legs of a round-trip ticket to be canceled together.
- Special Offers: Non-refundable unless otherwise specified.
