Indian Trails Accessibility

Indian Trails is committed to providing accessible transportation for all passengers, including those with disabilities or reduced mobility. The company ensures that its services comply with federal and state regulations to accommodate individuals requiring special assistance. Below is a complete guide to Indian Trails' accessibility policies, including wheelchair accommodations, mobility aids, and contact information for assistance.

Wheelchair and Mobility Device Accessibility

Accessible Buses

  • Most full-size Indian Trails coaches are wheelchair accessible.
  • Buses equipped with lifts allow passengers using wheelchairs to board safely.
  • Not all stations are wheelchair-accessible. Passengers should confirm accessibility at their departure and arrival locations before travel.

Wheelchair Dimensions and Weight Limits

For a mobility aid to be transported under the bus, it must meet the following size restrictions:

  • Maximum dimensions: 30” x 30” x 48”
  • Maximum weight: 200 lbs

Wheelchairs that exceed these size or weight limits cannot be transported.

Bringing Mobility Devices Onboard

  • Collapsible wheelchairs may be stored in the baggage compartment free of charge.
  • Canes and walkers may be carried inside the bus if they fit in the overhead storage, under the seat, or within the passenger’s personal space.
  • Mobility devices that cannot be safely transported inside the bus will be stowed as under-the-bus baggage.

Assistance for Passengers with Disabilities

Boarding & Seating Assistance

  • Drivers and staff can assist with boarding and exiting the bus upon request.
  • Passengers requiring additional assistance should arrive at least 30 minutes before departure and notify station staff.
  • Priority seating is available for passengers with disabilities.

Traveling with a Personal Care Attendant

  • Passengers who require assistance throughout the trip may bring a personal care attendant.
  • Indian Trails does not provide personal attendants, so passengers must arrange their own if needed.

Service Animals

  • Only trained service animals assisting passengers with disabilities are allowed onboard.
  • The animal must be under control at all times and cannot occupy a seat.
  • Emotional support animals (ESA), therapy animals, and pets are not permitted.
  • There is no fee for traveling with a service animal.

Oxygen Tanks & Respiratory Devices

Passengers who require oxygen tanks or respirators may bring them onboard, subject to the following guidelines:

  • Up to four (4) oxygen canisters allowed (two on board, two in baggage storage).
  • Maximum size for each container: 4.5 inches in diameter and 26 inches in length.
  • Oxygen tanks in the baggage compartment must be in a protective case with safety caps on the valves.
  • Onboard power outlets are not guaranteed for medical devices, so passengers should bring a sufficient power supply.

Booking Assistance & Advance Notice

Reservation Requirements

  • Passengers with disabilities are encouraged to notify Indian Trails in advance to ensure the necessary accommodations are available.
  • For wheelchair access, at least 48 hours' advance notice is recommended to confirm that the bus can accommodate a mobility device.
  • Not all routes or buses have wheelchair accessibility, so early communication is advised.
