VIA Rail provides flexible cancellation and refund policies based on ticket type, ensuring that passengers have options in case of changes to their travel plans.

Voluntary Cancellations

Refund Eligibility

Refunds depend on the fare type purchased:

  • Escape Fare: Non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
  • Economy Fare:
    • Refundable with a 25% cancellation fee.
    • Changes allowed up to the departure time (fare difference applies).
  • Economy Plus Fare:
    • Refundable with no cancellation fee before departure.
    • Changes allowed (fare difference applies).
  • Business and Business Plus Fares:
    • Fully refundable before departure.
    • Changes allowed without additional fees.

Tickets must be canceled at least 15 minutes prior to departure to qualify for a refund or exchange.

Involuntary Cancellations

If VIA Rail cancels your train due to service disruptions:

  • Passengers can reschedule at no cost or request a full refund.
  • Refunds are issued via the original payment method or as travel credits for future trips.
