It is a very small station but with long platforms. There are toilets here. There is very little seating around the station itself but some outside and on the platforms. There is a pumpkin cafe, but it is very expensive, so I recommend using the vending machines for drinks and snacks. The doors to the platforms have barriers across them that you can't pass until near your departure time, which was a tad annoying as I would have rather waited on the platform where it was cooler.

The way that Northern run this station is appalling. Two 6-car trains to Manchester Airport were cancelled in a row, everyone having to pile on a 3-car. The way the staff wait until one-minute before the train is due TO LEAVE, they open the door to the platform. The train is now delayed, all queue jumpers have pushed their way through and it’s total carnage. An utter mess, and an unbelievably poor way of coordinating a station. An accident waiting to happen, and needs explicit improvement immediately.

Having travelled on a day with limited service, returning home was quite a challenge. Despite this, a very friendly member of the station staff prevented us from boarding the wrong train and managed to point us into the right direction with information on how to get back.
