We arrived in Aix by TGV which only took 18 minute from Marseille & hopped out, thinking we'd made a nice trip. BUT having planned on the old train station being minutes from old town and within walking distance to our hotel, the TGV station is 50 miles from Old Town.
Fortunately I asked the a staffer at the station how we get into town, and then he pointed us to the lift down to the bus lane, where we jumped on a standing bus which was only about 10 Euro.
The TGV is a nice way to go for longer distances, but GoogleMap the train stations as you buy your tickets online - some high-speed routes are outside the central town and don't serve the local rail routes. FYI . . .

Easy to get to from Aix-en-Provence via bus. Plenty of staff to help answer questions, trains ran to time . Also good taxi supply.

Excellent train station with air conditioning, free Wifi, and a beautiful observation deck with lounge chairs (see pictures).
When you enter, it feels a little like Black Mesa Research Facility from the video game Half-Life. They have managed to fuse the rocky natural terrain with steel, glass, and cool air. There is even a robot who glides around the place, presumably keeping the floors clean.
The result is a refuge from the heat, removed from the city of Aix-en-Provence, but in turn benefitting from a view of the beautiful Provence countryside, both within the station and on the observation deck, which is close enough to hear train announcements over the tannoy.
