Are Pets Allowed on Indian Trails Buses?
No, pets are NOT allowed on Indian Trails buses. This includes small animals, cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, and other pets.
Emotional Support Animals (ESA)
- Not permitted onboard under any circumstances.
- Indian Trails follows the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) guidelines, which do not recognise emotional support animals as service animals.
Service Animals – Allowed with Restrictions
Indian Trails allows trained service animals that assist passengers with disabilities.
Definition of a Service Animal
A service animal is defined as a dog (or miniature horse) that is individually trained to perform tasks for a person with a disability, such as:
- Assisting visually impaired passengers (guide dogs).
- Alerting hearing-impaired passengers to sounds.
- Pulling a wheelchair.
- Assisting with medical conditions, such as seizures or diabetes.
Rules for Travelling with a Service Animal
- Must be under control: The service animal must be on a leash, harness, or tether at all times.
- Must behave properly: If the animal is disruptive (barking, growling, lunging), Indian Trails reserves the right to deny boarding.
- No separate seat: Service animals must sit on the floor near their owner and cannot occupy a seat.
- No additional fees: Service animals travel free of charge.
- Proper documentation may be requested: Passengers may be asked to confirm the service animal’s purpose.
How to Travel with a Service Animal?
- Inform Indian Trails in Advance: Passengers travelling with a service animal are encouraged to contact customer service before their trip to ensure proper accommodations.
- Plan for Pet Relief: Service animals must be able to remain on the bus for the entire duration of the trip without needing a bathroom break.
Prohibited Animals – Not Allowed on Board
Indian Trails does not allow the following animals, even if trained:
