Definition of a Service Animal: According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a service animal is a dog that has been individually trained to perform tasks for a person with a disability (e.g., guiding individuals who are blind, alerting individuals who are deaf, pulling a wheelchair, or assisting during a seizure).

Service Animal Requirements

  • The service animal must not occupy a seat and should remain in the floor space near the passenger.
  • The service animal must be well-behaved and not pose a direct threat to other passengers or the driver.
Not Allowed

Required Documentation

Barons Bus may request documentation to verify that an animal is a service animal. This includes:

  • A medical letter from a licensed professional confirming the passenger's disability and need for a service animal.
  • Identification such as an official service animal vest, tag, or ID (though not mandatory by law, it helps prevent issues).
Denial of Boarding

Barons Bus reserves the right to deny travel to any animal that:

  • Shows aggressive behaviour (biting, growling, excessive barking).
  • Is not housebroken.
  • Poses a safety risk to passengers or staff.

Service Animal Seating and Fees

  • No Extra Fees: Service animals travel for free with their owner.
  • Seating Considerations: Passengers travelling with a service animal will be accommodated in a seat with adequate space, but the animal cannot block aisles or emergency exits.
  • Advanced Notice Recommended: Although not required, passengers are encouraged to notify Barons Bus in advance if they are travelling with a service animal to ensure proper accommodations.

Pet Transport Alternatives

Since pets are not allowed on Barons Bus, passengers travelling with pets may need to:

  • Consider other pet-friendly transportation options, such as pet-friendly bus carriers or airlines.
  • Use a pet transport service if relocating with a pet.
