Average station in Germany, you can get the trains from here those are connecting to the important cities in Germany and some of international trains as well to connect the international cities. Many shops within the station. You can get English speaking staffs as well. LED/LCD displays with the train information are available which are very helpful.

The central train station in Essen. Mostly quite crowded due to the high number of trains passing through and respective passengers. Possibilities for many indoor shoppings and having food. Compared to other European train stations, the cleanliness could be improved.

Essen is the 9th biggest city in Germany. Information counter doesn't speak English. Information is a little helpful (suggested U-Bahn, which was an acceptable solution), and very polite, but on September 21 was unaware of train cancelations (S1) and SEV (bus connections) to Mulheim and claimed that the train is only late (which was also suggested by big timetable, and VRR App). One day earlier, I tried to get to Gelsenkirchen. Only some of the signs inform you that you can get to platform 21 and 22 only from the outside of the station, because of works in connecting tunnels. Most of the signs are not covered, and you try to get to Gleis 21/22 from the station, only to find a barrier. I have used train stations all over Germany. In past 20 years I have probably visited 50 railway stations, and Essen Hbf is the worst.
