Alcatraz Island is an old prison cell located in San Francisco, California. Officially, nobody has ever escaped from Alcatraz. Unofficially, many people believe that Frank Lee Morris – a lifetime criminal – achieved the impossible in 1962 after two years as a prisoner there. His amazing story was made into the famous 1979 Clint Eastwood movie, Escape from Alcatraz.
- Golden Gate Bridge
The Golden Gate Bridge is a one-mile-wide suspension bridge over the Pacific Ocean, connecting the San Francisco Bay and Marin County. It’s the most iconic symbol of San Francisco, California and named one of the “Wonders of the Modern World” by the American Society of Civil Engineers. Opened in 1937, the Golden Gate Bridge is possibly one of the most photographed bridges in the world.
- Muir Woods
Muir Woods National Park is located north of San Francisco. The national park is famous for its giant sequoias trees, some more than a thousand years old and reaching up to 250 feet high. It is one of the last of the historic redwoods that remain in the Bay Area and therefore has been protected as a National Monument since 1908.
